Having reliable internet has become a crucial part of functioning in our modern-day society. We rely on internet connection for a number of our everyday tasks. We understand that our rural communities face many barriers when it comes to digital connectivity. To address this, The Kuskokwim Corporation (TKC) has been deliberately planning and preparing for broadband connectivity, but the broadband infrastructure project is going to take time to complete. In March of 2023, TKC announced the launch of Connect TKC, our internet accessibility program. This program was created to provide an immediate solution to bridge the digital connectivity gap for our Shareholders.
TKC provided the Starlink units, installations for those who requested it, and training materials at no cost to TKC households. TKC shareholders who received the Starlink units were only responsible for monthly internet charges, service fees and costs, and maintenance.
This project was first-come, first-served, subject to funding availability and approval by TKC’s Board of Directors. We closed the application period on July 7, 2023. We fulfilled as many requests as we were able, the total number of TKC households served being 450. We are pleased to announce our Connect TKC program reached 49% of TKC households in 46 communities and 5 states.
There are no plans in place to reopen applications for another round of the Connect TKC at this time.
