Energy Saving Tips

Households in our region pay some of the highest energy rates in the entire nation. To help conserve energy and reduce your monthly energy bill, here are some energy saving tips and tricks brought to you by TKC’s Brighter Futures Project:

Change your light bulbs to LEDs. An LED bulb uses only about 10 watts of electricity compared to an incandescent 75 watt bulb. That’s an 80% savings for the same amount of light and an 80% savings on your lighting costs!

Use natural light when possible.

Turn off the lights when they’re not in use. Lighting accounts for about 12% of a typical residential utility bill.

Plug electronics into a power strip. Flip the switch off when you are not using them. Many electronics, including TVs, carry a phantom load even when they are not on.

Don’t leave your mobile phone plugged in overnight. It only takes a couple of hours to charge.

TKC’s Brighter Futures Project launched as an effort to address the high electricity costs faced by our Shareholders. The Project is a multi-angled approach to bring affordable and efficient energy to our region and to our Shareholders everywhere.

We continue to plan and collaborate with partners to provide more long-term solutions to reducing energy costs for our Shareholders and communities. In the meantime, TKC provides energy efficient light bulbs to all of our Shareholders wherever they are.
