One day our great-grandchildren will walk these woods, climb these hills, and navigate these waterways that we are borrowing from them. Stewardship of our homelands is utmost priority to The Kuskokwim Corporation (TKC) and our Shareholders.
TKC owns and stewards nearly 1,000,000 acres of land that stretch from the bluffs below Uknavik to approximately five miles above the Tatlawiksuk, River on the main stem of the Kuskokwim as well as up several of tributaries in the area.
TKC is not the sole landowner in the Middle Kuskokwim, and we understand the importance of being a good neighbor. Throughout our region you will find, privately owned land, State and Federal land, land owned by other Alaska Native Corporations (ANCs) and several Native Allotments. TKC does not manage Native Allotments, as they are privately owned by allottees.
To help foster self-determination TKC utilizes a variety of processes to get land to our Tribal and local governments for the development of their communities. Land access is also available to both Shareholders and non-Shareholders through our various permit programs.
Decision making for our land is governed by TKC’s Natural Resource Policy, a five-member Land Committee with authorizationfrom our full Board of Directors, and the wisdom from our Ancestors–the original caretakers of this place.
Please be mindful when visiting the Middle Kuskokwim as land use and access will vary with ownership. Remember, we are all responsible for stewarding and caring for Nuna.
